Cold Season Arrangements to Breathe Life Back into Your Home

Winter can be a gloomy and dreary time of year, I should know because as a summer-sun-aficionado I honestly just don’t like winter. I know that may be utterly offensive to some, and I get it. Skiing? A blast! Christmas, a wonderful time to eat, drink, and be merry (a Christmas Story? It’s a Wonderful Life? Absolutely)! But let’s be honest, adding anything bright and green to the inside of our homes during these cold, bleak months is advisable for morale, and a reminder that warmth is on the way. My point? Flowers! The benefits of having fresh flowers around are endless, thank you science for backing me up, plus whether it’s Lilies that fill my home with the most beautiful fragrance, or Poppies that sit in a vase like a painting come to life, flowers brighten space and mood in ways that cannot be duplicated.

Here are a few of my favorite ideas for breathing life back into your space using flowers that can be found during the cold, harsh, dreary (just being dramatic for fun) winter season:

    1. Hellebores: Also known as Christmas roses, hellebores are a great choice for winter arrangements. They come in a range of colors, including white, pink, and purple, and have a delicate, romantic feel. And I’m sorry but they are downright fashionable. These flowers look like the best, most well-tailored dress come to life. An absolutely affordable luxury to have around for inspiration and enjoyment.

    1. Lilies- Admittedly these are added because of the ease of finding them at your local Trader Joes. The truth is the smell is so lovely and fragrant that every time I have these on display and someone walks in my home, they take a breath and remark “Wow! Your home smells so wonderful!” Mission accomplished. The flowers bloom bright and beautiful, and so long as you trim the pollen off the blooms you’ll have a beautiful, and mess-free, bouquet. Pro tip- trim the pollen off or it will stain anything nearby that you treasure. Can you tell I learned this the hard way?

    1. Peonies- Ok so the truth is Peonies peak season begins during early spring and carries out until late June. Even though peonies have a short blooming season, you will be delighted by the dramatic and beautiful peony blooms most often seen during the month of May. But we aren’t talking about May, are we? No. But! I believe these are, yet again, worth the investment for your enjoyment, stress relief, and happiness. Take any room in your home, clean it well, and then place a vase filled with peonies in a singular color or multi-colored arrangement and you will be so thankful you did. I could sit and simply stare at these. The layers upon layers of petals, the bright green stems. Run don’t walk!

  1. Seeded eucalyptus-This gives a little bit of a different vibe from your everyday eucalyptus and looks great with any flowers that you can find during the colder months. So this is the bouquet that I have gone with. I went with what was available to me and my region. For us, that was Blue Thistle, spray roses, and pink tuberose.

My all-time favorite way to display flowers…in our Izabella Glass Bottle. The neck is thin enough to only fit up to 6 flowers- money saver, but beautiful enough to make the stems and the way they fan out inside the bottle below a massive part of the beauty on display. These recycled glasses are not only stylish and sustainable, but durable. Plus, with a portion of the proceeds from every purchase going towards fighting hunger, you can feel good about your purchase while also bringing a touch of beauty to your home.

To create your arrangement, start by filling your HALF UNITED glass with water all the way to the bottle neck. There is nothing worse than when an arrangement has an inch or two of water the bottom of a vase. We’re creating a show-stopping welcome to you and your guests when they visit your home. Make this special, and meaningful.

You’re doing good and taking care of yourself here- let’s make this count! You work hard, you care for others, and yourself. I hope these arrangements are your little daily reminder that you are doing a great job, and your best is yet to come.
