This past year I have noticed a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. We are using our voices to bring awareness and much-needed change, and the data is on our side.
Women’s equal participation and leadership in political and public life are essential to achieving things like the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. However, as also stated by the UN, there is significant data showing that women are underrepresented at all levels of decision-making worldwide and that achieving gender parity in political life is far off. Women like (my personal hero) Jacinda Arden Prime Minister of New Zealand are helping change this, not only by showing us how great females are as leaders, but she’s also inspiring women around the globe to follow in her footsteps!
As a business owner, I show support for women in as many ways as I can, and as often as I can by supporting their businesses and their causes. Sometimes, like in the case of the things we make and sell here HALF UNITED, both are one in the same. When we design goods and have them manufactured by women-owned businesses, we are not only supporting the individual entrepreneur but also helping to level the playing field in a world where women often face barriers and discrimination in the business world- especially when it comes to manufacturing.
As a female that started this brand thirteen years ago with nothing more than $200, it makes me proud to remind our supporters that HALF UNITED is a woman-owned and women-led brand committed to making a positive impact on the world. We have been broadening our mission of fighting hunger so that through our work, people in our community and around the world may lead more full lives. In addition to each product providing 7 meals for those in need, we are proud to gainfully employ artisans and support sustainable manufacturing as our means of bringing our designs to life.
