GIVING BACK

Unity in Our Community

The world we live in is full of challenges and obstacles that can sometimes feel insurmountable. However, when we come together as a community, we can accomplish incredible things that would have been impossible to achieve alone. There is tremendous power in working together, and it is essential that we recognize this power and use it to tackle some of the world's most pressing issues, like hunger.

Hunger is a widespread problem that affects millions of people worldwide. According to the United Nations, over 690 million people suffer from hunger, with more than 130 million people experiencing acute hunger. It is a complex problem that requires a multifaceted approach to solve. No single person or organization can tackle it alone, and it takes whole communities to work together to do it effectively.

What I personally love about working as a collective are the resources we can bring to the table. When we pool our talents, we can accomplish much more than we would have been able to on our own. This could include anything from financial contributions to expertise and knowledge, and trust me…it is not always about finances. Some of the most powerful people I have worked with were unable to make fiscal donations, and instead planted the very seeds that fed communities.  Working together enables us to make a more significant impact and reach more people in need. It allows people to bring their skills to purpose and encourages everyone to be a part of the impact on hunger. Each person in the community has unique experiences and ideas that can help shape a more comprehensive and effective response to hunger. When we work together, we can tap into this diversity and develop more nuanced and informed solutions to complex problems like why hunger exists.

In Wilmington alone, HALF UNITED is dedicated to one Urban Farm, 8 community gardens, and 1 farm to school program, but we can not do it alone. Tackling hunger is not just about providing food to those in need. It requires a long-term approach that addresses the root causes of hunger and poverty, like lack of access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

When we work together as a community, we can develop holistic solutions that address these underlying causes and create lasting change. By coming together and pooling our resources and expertise, we can make a significant impact. We must recognize the power of community collaboration and work together to develop sustainable solutions that address the root causes of hunger and poverty. Together, we can create a world where everyone has access to the food they need to live healthy and productive lives.
